got my first box of “artist’s markers,” as I called them, when I was 8 years old.

Holding my plastic case of felt-tipped Pentels, arranged in rainbow order, I knew I’d grow up to be an artist. 

Today, I’m fairly hopeless with a sketchbook. But I’m still fascinated with light and shadow, and I capture them with my camera.

For example, working as a news reporter taught me that people are delightfully surprising. Traveling to other countries helped me discover that savoring an experience makes it last longer. 

Each time someone trusts me to make their portrait or document their wedding, that person becomes a part of my story—and yours. It’s a privilege that I will never take for granted.
